I made a post yesterday about Wildfire Marketing Group about my displeasure over a sponsored post. Jeremy Knauff, Wildfire’s Creative Director, has since reached out to me to explain the circumstances that took place that led to my frustration. I’ll keep the details between the two of us.

That said, he has offered to even pay me for the unpublished post, which of course I won’t accept. It was never about the money but it’s certainly good to know that someone took the time to do any type of damage control over a situation that made a partner, customer, or vendor uncomfortable.

wildfire marketing group1 Wildfire Marketing Group did the right thing; now its my turnAs I wrote yesterday, I was always open to hearing the other side. Did I push that publish button a bit prematurely? Probably. For that I’m apologetic. It was never my intention to bash someone and those of you who have been with me here know that I’m not a hater.

However, I’m still not shy about writing about being dissatisfied over any situation. I just need to be a little less trigger happy. As I promised Jeremy, that post was removed and the tweets were deleted. I’m even tossing in some backlinks.

A blogger’s responsibility

We, as bloggers, have our own sounding board that we can use as our platform to get heard. Regardless of our niche or purpose of our blog, we also have a responsibility to our readers to state the facts, sprinkle our opinions, and tap our emotions.

I know of many situations where a blogger posted about his/her discontent and a company would quickly jump in and solve the problem. Do your own search and you’ll find people who got replacement computers from manufacturers, remediations to their new homes from builders, and comps for vacations from travel companies after blogging about their experiences.

Even as recent as a decade ago, those wouldn’t be possible. Of course, we all have to use discretion as to when to post, how sharp our words are, and when to retract a statement. In my case, I could have waited until the fumes subsided and presented my case with less venom. This post covers the last part.
