The SEO building blocks consist of five key things to do.
There are obviously many things that you can do to for search engine optimization (SEO) but which should you focus on? Your time is valuable so I made a list of the top 5 things that you should do to maximize your time. In other words, why spend four hours on something when you can spend an hour on a task that should return 100x more value? Enough chatter, let’s get on the list:
- Write fresh content consistently! I’ve mentioned this in several previous posts, most recently at Blog about your niche. There is absolutely nothing more important than providing real value on your blog on a regular basis. So write, write, write. Set a goal of every other day or every weekday or every day. Just make sure you post useful information related to the theme of your blog a few times a week at a minimum. If your blog is about puppies, keep writing about puppies and skip the rant on politics.
- Make your titles relevant. Having good, catchy titles are great. Having good, catchy titles with keywords related to your post is even better. So if your post is about losing weight, instead of “Shedding your unwanted fat” you could go with “Shedding the extra weight: lose 10 pounds in a month safely”.
- Use keywords in your content. Don’t go crazy with this and scatter keywords unnecessarily (you will actually be penalized for that) but make sure you have some keywords in the body of your post. Imagine if I never actually wrote the words “search engine optimization” in this post, which is exactly what the post is about.
- Have a logical site structure. This is pretty automatic if you use a good blogging platform (e.g. blogger or wordpress.com). However, if you are using custom themes or running your own blog on a separate host, that may change things a bit. Just make sure that your blog structure is organized so your directories and pages are easy to understand.
- Use Google Analytics. It’s arguably the most useful analytical tool for your blog and it’s absolutely free! There’s no reason not to use Google Analytics. You can learn about where your visitors are from geographically, how long they are staying, what your traffic is this week compared to last week, how many other posts they are looking at, and much more. One important thing to monitor is which keywords are bringing them to your site. You could simply continue to utilize those keywords in future posts if you want to improve ranking for that niche.
None of this is groundbreaking. In fact, you should probably do these things for your readers anyway, not just for SEO purposes. And even though search engine algorithms change all the time, the aforementioned things to do have pretty much always been part of the core. It doesn’t mean you don’t need to do anything else either but if you only have time for 5 things, do these. Backlinks, keywords in the URL, tags/categories, directories, social networking, microblogging, and a bunch of other tactics will come in due time. Happy blogging!

I recently got my Google analytics up and running, and all I can say is WOW. There are most stats that you can shake a stick at (great for us stats junkies). I also think site manager deserves a mention too. It isn’t the same as analytics, but it does tell you the top 200 keywords are on your site. For example, Blake, Waddill, Props, Blog, and Ideas are some of the ones on my site.
I never used Site Manager but Google Analytics can show you your keywords too. Check out http://freebloghelp.com/how-to-use-google-analytics-to-see-which-keywords-are-leading-to-your-blog/ for a step-by-step.

I use it everyday as well. It gives me such great visibility for all of my sites. Not sure how any site owner gets by without these metrics.
What you say is true, but most of SEO I have been trying is very time consummig, like getting backlinks
If you’re already doing these things, your best bet is to start commenting on other sites in the gambling niche.

You won’t want to hear step one but the first thing you should do is invest in a domain and hosting. It’ll cost you just under $100 a year (or less if you can find great pricing) but it’ll also speak volumes about your commitment to your blog.
Definitely agree with point 5 – often overlooked. Without Google Analytics (or at least some sort of analytics software) it is very hard to know if you are focusing your efforts in the right area.
Google (and other search engines) love fresh unique content; your readers love it too. Just set a posting schedule and try to stick to it. I know I am not mentioning keywords et al. It is because, I believe that if your content can make your readers happy then there is great chance that it is well optimized for the search engines as well!

I avoid being a keyword junkie for my personal blogs. I write what I want to write, using the same language that would come out of my mouth.
That said, when I write for corporate blogs, I leverage tools to get the most out of my keywords and phrases.
By posting regularly you mean writing on daily basis OR weekly basis.
What should be the frequency.
Whatever schedule works for you as long as there’s a routine so your readers know the frequency.
In a perfect world, getting fresh content up every day would be great, especially in the first few weeks. Not everyone can do that though.
Talking about contents, I think no one would disagree that fresh and original contents really help take the top spot on the SERP. The same thing on formulating the the best title… So far with Google Analytics, I am also using it.. I just have a doubt if other third party applications like the Google Analytics has other things to bet. I am not using any of those… Only Google analytics… I think those who are using Pro version of this applications have something to say here…

When I published my blog, I set up Google Analytics right away…or at least I thought I did. Long story short, the month and a half of inconsistent statistics made me awfully suspicious and I went to check if the Google analytics code was still where it was supposed to be. It wasn’t. What a terrible feeling. But, on the bright side, I had the WordPress Stats plugin running during this time as well, so all is not forsaken.

SEO is not a one day activity but instead it’s a continuous practice. In optimizing your website you need to consider those stuffs listed above. If those guidelines will be implemented then it would be pretty advantage for you since it will be your arsenal among your competitors.
I completely agree with your suggestions SEO does not depend on single factor but we neeed to walk through each and every factor related to it
Yes, I must agree with you point of view. I’d like to add to your list: keep each page optimized for no more than 3 keyword phrases and pay attention to the headings structure. But basically, having fresh content is maybe the most important thing.
