sidemirror The Best Reviews of 2009 in Review

A little over a week ago, I published 10 FREE killer WordPress themes in 2009 as my entry into Daniel Scocco’s Group Writing Project at Daily Blog Tips. As it turns out, Daniel ended up posting the 90 entries he received for “the best” of 2009.

After reading each of the excerpts and going to almost all of them directly, below is my best of the best. And trust me when I say I’ve never been to any of these blogs until today. They may not be from the most well-known blogs but I chose them because they were well-written and at least one of the following: entertaining, educational, or inspiring.

21 Lessons I Learned In 2009 That Gave Me The Greatest Return On My Investment – As many of you already know, I’m a big fan of learning lessons. Sheila’s list includes basics like set goals and have a plan, but I really liked her humility when she also listed things like ask for help and get a mentor.

Five ways the Internet made me a happier grandma in 2009 – Most of my family is local so using technology to stay in touch with loved ones isn’t really something that’s in the front of my brain. Lisa gives me a good reminder that not everyone is as fortunate as I am and explains how she leverages the internet to keep up with her grandson.

50 Inspiring People of 2009 – A wonderful list of people who all did something special in the past year. Stacey’s well thought-out collection triggered some of the best “feel good” news stories for me personally.

I know, I only picked a handful because most articles were just so-so. I must have looked through the list nearly 5-6 more times trying to squeeze another great article or two out but they’re just not there IMO.

In fact, about a third of the 90 entries were outright terrible; they are poorly-written, filled with typos, lack creativity, and utterly pointless. One of the reasons to participate was to take an opportunity to create a ‘pillar’ article, not just to get a free link. If these articles are really some of these authors’ best, I don’t want to see their everyday stuff!

So kudos to the bloggers who took this project seriously. Hopefully they’ll get a boost in traffic and make a few new friends in the process.

If you haven’t seen the project submissions yet, when you get a chance, take a look at the entire 2009 review list yourself. Which articles do you like?
