Charles, a regular contributor here, gives us some good reasons for using dedicated hosting.
Anyone looking for a web hosting solution can choose between virtual private hosting (VPS), shared hosting, reseller hosting, cloud hosting and dedicated hosting. So, what exactly is dedicated hosting? This refers to a situation where a site is hosted on its own server. This means that none of its software and hardware is shared with any other site. Dedicated servers are usually suitable for hosting sites which experience high levels of traffic. However, you need to note that the support, flexibility and specifications offered vary from one hosting provider to another. You will therefore need to take time to look around and weigh your options before settling for any package.
Here are some of the advantages of dedicated web hosting:
1. Dedicated resources
The main benefit of dedicated hosting is that you have the server all to yourself, meaning that all the server’s resources are at your disposal. Unlike other hosting packages where the CPU is shared, dedicated servers offer a CPU exclusively for you. If you are running a site which requires high specification hardware or software, you will be able to access it without any interference from other sites. This will ensure that your site remains available at all times. In addition, a dedicated server offers you a large amount of bandwidth and RAM. As a result, you can always upgrade your RAM or bandwidth easily whenever the need arises.
2. Uptime and security
A dedicated server guarantees efficient performance and uptime for sites which experience heavy site activity and high traffic frequently. Dedicated hosting solutions normally offer redundancy options for software and hardware. This ensures that little uptime is lost in event of a server failure. In addition, since your site is hosted exclusively on one server, it is protected from the dangers associated with sharing resources with others. This includes threats from hackers, malware or even contamination from other sites.
3. Privacy
All kinds of hosting solution usually offer some degree of security so as to protect the information contained in your site. However, if you are planning to carry out transactions on your site involving personal or sensitive data, your security can be enhanced by using a dedicated hosting solution. Hosting your site on a separate server offers more security compared to hosting on a shared server.
4. Performance
Unlike in shared hosting where sites compete for resources, a site hosted on a dedicated server has exclusive access to the resources offered by the server. Having access to the entire bandwidth of the server ensures enhanced performance of the site. In addition, the disk space available can accommodate the site’s growth in terms of content.
5. Scalability
Dedicated servers usually make provision for a site to continue running effectively when there is an increase in transactions or traffic. Since your site is hosted exclusively on the server, the hosting provider is able to act fast whenever it is necessary to upgrade resources. For instance, you can upgrade the CPUs or RAM or increase bandwidth without being constrained by other sites on the server.
6. Optimization
Dedicated hosting gives you the freedom to optimize your site by reconfiguring the set up. It allows you to select the preferred software and hardware specifications for operating your site, including the database and operating system. This is contrary to shared hosting where you have to work with a predefined software or hardware package.
Conclusion
When choosing a dedicated hosting service, you need to keep the following things in mind.
- Make sure you have the technical expertise required to administrate the server with ease. Select an operating system which you can use comfortably
- Keep the server secure and up to date so as to ensure hackers and other malicious attackers cannot access it
- Get conversant with the important dedicated server terms. This way, when anything goes wrong with the server, you will know exactly what you need to do
- Make sure your intended use of the dedicated server does not contravene your web host’s acceptance usage policy (AUP). In case you carry out activities which might affect other servers in your network and are not in line with the AUP, the web host is likely to suspend your account as the matter is being resolved

Hi,
This is an awesome post. I am considering shifting from shared hosting to dedicated hosting. Found this post very useful. Thanks, Terry
i like , this post , god job friend , i’m from indonesian , thanks you
Although I recognize the benefits of a professional hosting service, I’ve hosted my blog on the wordpress.com platform because of the user-friendly interface. Maybe, I’m going to move my blog to a professional hosting company like hostigator and switch to the wordpress.org framework.
nice sharing, and it’s important to know what you want for your hosting, with shared server your account get blocked easily if you are consuming too many CPU usage, if you want a higher flexibility and scalable server , dedicated server is your choice.
Great post. I think that dedicated servers are a great choice for any site with a good amount of traffic. Right now, I am on a good, shared hosting plan. I get solid site load speeds. However, if my traffic continues to grow (as I hope), I will probably make the switch to dedicated servers.
Awesome!!!!!!!!! Great point . Well detailed . Very important points in hosting
For big companies, dedicated hosting is definitely better. For a small one, one might consider the other options.
I’m still feeling fine with my shared hosting place – maybe I’ll reconsider when I get more unique visitors.
Im using shared hosting at the minute but need to try dedicated hosting, just the price that lets me down.
Dedicated hosting can have a big learning curve. There is a lot more that can come into play, such as server security and user permissions. Not to mention that you should put in place a good backup system and virus protection. Costs are much higher with dedicated hosting.
In dedicated hosting one need to be aware of everything like how much is load on the server and other stuff. While in shared hosting one will have some restrictions but other things are full managed by your hosting company.
Although dedicated hosting will get into trouble, but overall, it stills have the advantage.
nice post, and i was using dedicated server and changed back to shared server, because the price are expensive and need to pay it monthly
if you are not experience in managing the dedicated hosting, can try the semi-dedicated server
Dedicated hosting provides a powerful and secure web hosting solutions for companies and consumers with more sophisticated website needs. One more point I would like to add here is dedicated hosting solutions do not have the same space constraints as shared hosting packages which gives enough room for expansion i.e. to grow your site. Very informative post!
What’s a good free CPanel is for unix servers?
Free hosting services will disturb you in every street. So, your website reliability will automatically increase if your files and services available 24/7. Dedicated hosting server is perfect for personal and professional use.
we use nginx at http://www.heybubble.com live chat software it provides security and optimization things a great website needs to function.
If you ask me, the most important factor (which made me choose a dedicated hosting package) is the security and performance you get. The CPU that is dedicated to you and the unique IP address are invaluable when you want to be successful with your blog. The uptimes are pretty good too.
Thanks for the post, Charles.
Hi
Really its a most beneficial post. so free hosting is not safe in any manner and we should avoid to go for free hosting and Dedicated hosting is much better for professional along with personal.
thanks for spreading this valuable knowledge .
Hi Charles, Thanks to share about dedicated server and according to me dedicated server will be good but for big company. don’t use it initial level as its expensive but yeah when company will be grow then you can do it. And as we know that dedicate server provides secure web hosting solution.
We used to run our website on a virtual server but encountered many problems. At first we could cope by optimizing our website, but as we gained visitors, so did we gain problems. Since we switched to a dedicated server, all problems are gone!
Dedicated hosting is too expensive. It is meant for large business. I rather go for shared hosting than it.
Dedicated servers are a better choice over other hosting options any given day. The advantages you mentioned about dedicated hosting in the post actually made me wonder how good it must be. Shared hosting is a real mess, I think its time we tried dedicated hosting, thanks for sharing Charles.
Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up.The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Safari.I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The style and design look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Many thanks!!!
There is one such provider http://www.yoursmarthost.com
Excellent list of advantages of dedicated hosting. You’ve done a wonderful persuasive job, but I think you make a very valuable key point in your article: “Make sure you have the technical expertise.” It’s a shame, I’ve seen plenty of sites that have the content and design to be successful, but do not have the ability to have it implemented because they lack the technical know-how.
