Are you getting frustrated with Google’s failure to update us on our PageRank (PR)? Believe it or not, it has been eight months since the last time Google showed us the PRs to our pages!
In the past, Google was giving us updates every three to six months. Even though each pages’ PR is dynamic and constantly changing, we had to guess current PRs until Google shared their scores with us. It’s bad enough we couldn’t get real time PR but for the most part, we coped with waiting several months. Personally, it hurts me since I get many sponsor offers and my PR4 home page plays a big part in that. I believe my home page PR is likely PR5 or PR6 at this point. That would enable to me to charge double for each sponsored article, link, and ad!
As we approach a year without Google sharing an update, many naysayers are suggesting that PR is no longer the apple of Google’s eye, that Google is going to stop using PR all together, and PR is no longer credible due to Facebook and Twitter statuses showing up on search results.
I say they’re wrong! I can’t say for certain that Google won’t change how they’re using PR but it won’t go away. After all, PR is Larry Page’s baby (PageRank is named after him, not after web pages). The PR algorithm may get tweaked, the PR results may be weighed differently, or PR may be combined with other metrics. However, I’m in the camp that PR will never completely disappear in the foreseeable future.
What’s your opinion of Google’s failure to provide us with a more recent PR for our pages?

I am a business professional
with an entrepreneurial spirit. Although I have an MBA and managed websites and IT departments
for several Fortune 500 companies ...
I kind of like the fact that they haven’t updated it because to be honest, I have not even thought about it since their last update.
I think that while it is a great little gauge that helps you make money by selling ads, that the real test should be the traffic that Google is sending you – and if that is going well, then you are doing the right thing.

Good points there. I’m getting decent traffic from Google but it’s always nice to know that I can lean on my PR to bring in some income.
I haven’t see any update for pagerank since April 2010. Maybe they got technical errors or just want to remove it always.

Google has responded and said that the PR update is still being done automatically and they hope that all domains will have an update soon.
I guess one thing is clear, they’ve widen their products and services at an incredible fast rate and can’t focus on Google’s PR system as how they used to.
And I doubt they’ll let it go.
I’ve also seen a few websites getting an update this month, things are moving very slow, but definitely moving.
No way it will disappear. I’ll be interested to see how PR comes into play now and in the future.
We just hope so that it would still be there. We have been working or our life since everybody started blogging in order to reach our goal of having a high PR but then, as if it would be put in the trash. No, that wouldn’t happen I think.

I think that google will not abandon pr and that it will soon be updated (this winter). For some reason it seems that will use new algorithms for its calculation , more complicated
Google doesn’t want you to make money with its PR. That’s the bottom line. It doesn’t approve of link sales or page rank sculpting and it seems that the PR is the most important criterion on the market today

Of course Google doesn’t want anyone to “work the system” to earn money. However, I think they’re perfectly fine with it if PR was obtained in a legitimate, organic way.
I’m not enjoying it. DEDC is stuck on the 1 it held with nothing there. Now that I am using it again with constant updates it wouldn’t take me long to jump to the 3 and beyond.

Heck, your home page could be PR3 or higher already! Let’s wait and see what it ends up being. Juice from this site can’t hurt!
Woot! lol
I’ve been posting daily, or damn close to it, attempting to declutter my drafts and pendings…..i won’t run dry anytime soon.

Yea I really wish they’d do an update. Google is “user” focused so they don’t give much cred to site owners. But this tool really does help site owners figure out how they are doing.
Maybe its harder for Google to calculate PR now and that’s what the delay is.

I believe the delay is integrating real time into the algorithm so the PR ranks are fair for everyone.
I think internal PageRank is still alive and well.. it’s what the algorithm is centered around. It’s just that toolbar Pagerank is gone because it was being used to sell and buy links, which ruined search engine results. So Pagerank is still here, just that we can’t see it anymore

I don’t think that PR will disappear, but for sure Google is preparing a change. We just need to have a little more patience….
Very useful information. All websites in the Google website Pegeranka having some trouble not getting extra. People are all the solutions are not getting any results. your very useful information thanks to its feet has done focus.
I somewhat agree that people are getting less information about the PR of their sites because as we can see and feel today, others are selling and buying links that results in damaging some search engine outcome. And as I’ve known, Google only reached for site users and not the site owners.
Your homepage’s PR just increased by 1 Gabe, congrats on that one, and I’m pretty sure that you’re happy about that improvement
Definitely can’t complain. Thought there’s a chance it would be PR6 but I’ll take the PR5!
Google’s PR has not been accurate or reliable for at least four years now. Other than bragging rights “Toolbar PR” is only good for selling links to the inexperienced webmasters or those who just can’t let go of it.
Google is never going to get rid of “Toolbar PR” they’re just going to keep on showing misleading results.
I’m actually glad the PR is so screwed up, it makes getting quality links much easier.

Just curious, what do you mean by not accurate or reliable? It’s based on juice from backlinks, how would you be able to measure either?
Wow, very interesting article. It’s funny how history can be twisted in so many different ways.
keep it up.. enjoy when i read….

There are so many people who don’t know how can they get good page rank of their own link. So it is very useful for them. Thanks for sharing this information. Also, i got more idea about Google PR.
I’ve always check my page rank before when selling links, but now I think most webmaster focus more on content and traffic that your website brings not matter what is its pagerank.
I think we are likely to see a very big update to PageRank in the next few months. With blackhat SEO tactics becoming more advanced and harder to crack down on, PR has been less reliable like Mark said. Google won’t let it go.
As Google was giving us updates every three to six months. but on this update, there has many changes occur in Google algorithm, it gives some site good PR, but at the same time it decline traffic sources that come to website, which produce the disadvantage in terms of site ranking.
I don’t sell links, but I do participate in a link group where higher PR links cost more credits. Not having PR updates was a pain for that. Is there any convenient metric other than Google PR that could be used to decide a value of links for a system like this?

PageRank is a system that helps Google to organize its search result pages. It used to be the heart of Google’s ranking algorithms. Google explains PageRank as follows.”PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value.
Google doesn’t want us to make money online with their system. Wherein many people and especially bloggers give more attention on the PR instead of making their content useful.
nice post and Google was giving us updates every three to six months about the page rank:-)
google’s PR are accurate as i think of it……….i’m getting a good traffic from those pages……………..

Thanks for nice topic. I have only had my blog for about 1 month, so I’m not ranked very high, but one of my goals for the new year is to work on that. I love commenting on other blogs; not just because it helps with traffic and ranking, but because I learn so much from them and feel as if I have something to offer on some. I’m a website developer, but I’m just starting to learn about optimizing for search engines, so I suppose it will be a work in progress. So i want to say google is always like to share rank with good blogs and have good algorithms anyhow, thanks again for sharing your experience.
yes.. you are saying true…….. i am totally agree with your this… Google updated last pr after 8 months…….
Yes, you are right. i am also waiting since long for google page rank update. i had searched many time about when will be Google’s page rank update. but i haven’t found proper answer. generally, google updates page rank on every 31st of december. but this time we have not got update from Google.
Thanks fowr sharingdw nice blog and good list Gabew
Thank you for sharing this with us,Thank you for sharing this with us, very appreciated I will return for more of this blog.
i really like it.
Although the main function of the pagerank is not used as a factor that determines the position of SERP.
I am sure will never be eliminated pagerank by google if the product is abandoned it will be a lot of internet users who lose their income,
I think google aware of it ..

The way I look at is that page rank can tell you a little about a websites characteristics but really domain authority and page authority and trust rank seem to be the biggest factors.
Best way to increase PR is to get links from relevant niche and that too organic way. Never try black hat methods or mass backlink creation methods. it’ll only hurt if google finds that out.
