So, you have a great blog (at least you think it’s great), you have dozens or hundred of posts, but your traffic is very low. Maybe even double digits… maybe even single digits… you feel disappointed.
But how could it be, given how much work you’ve done?
Here’s the brutal truth, the factors for failure from Copyblogger:
1. No one is listening.
2. You’re not very good.
3. You simply don’t care.
Harsh!
Here’s how it works…
When you write in the same way as someone who is bashing their head against a wall, you’re spending a lot of energy, putting yourself in a lot of pain, but nobody cares in the least little bit. Getting more readers requires less head bashing, and more reflection on exactly what it is you are communicating.
Let’s take this list one at a time.
No one is listening
There might be good reasons for this. For example, as I write this post, I know it won’t be read for several months because I do not want any traffic to this website until I have more content available for readers. My traffic is low because I am not promoting the site. Once I start promoting this site, I will get more readers… and you will get more for your site as you learn to promote as well.
You’re not very good
You could have a lot of visits to your website by heavily promoting it… yet acquire very little business because you aren’t very good at turning readers into customers. Perhaps your articles are poorly written and readers find no value. Perhaps your sales chain is terrible, and people won’t complete a sales because it’s too hard for them to carry through. Perhaps your design doesn’t engage your prospects and customers, and they leave before learning.
You just don’t care
People write—publicly and privately—for a large number of reasons. If you don’t care that you anyone reads what you write, it’s likely that no one will in fact read what you write. If you are a terrible writer, you can be sure they won’t read you.
Look out for next week’s article for turning these three factors for failure around, into factors for blogging success.

Very true; I’ll definately be sticking around for the second part!
I think the second part is what people struggle with the most. Let’s be honest, getting traffic is easily, but monetising it is more of a challenge!

For making your blog grow and succeed, you need to put lot of hardwork plus you should have loads of patience. Its just like any other business where initial investment is too much without any return in short time.

Patience is one thing many bloggers either don’t have or lose way too quickly.
For those who can overcome the initial pain, the rewards are quite satisfying!
I don’t know.May be the most reason to blog failure is that you give it up.
Darni, I have an article scheduled tomorrow on just that topic. If you have a dead blog, I wanna talk to you.

Excellent!
Simon, I agree, monetizing traffic is difficult. And I believe we make it much more difficult than it really is by getting in our own way.

Blogging is about sharing. It can’t be that bloggers are not caring, unless it’s just a wanton experimental site. If there’s at all any real commercial intent, no blogger would want his blog to fail, right?
Since there are huge number of blogs not doing well in terms of attracting traffic and effective monetization, this seems to point at three factors:
1. not enough passion & knowledge for the core subject
2. not enough passion for socially interactive writing &
3. not enough passion & knowhow in blog promotion
I don’t think bloggers want to fail; some just don’t know how to succeed.
I’m glad you mentioned passion in y our comment since without it, a great site wouldn’t be possible.
“I don’t think bloggers want to fail; some just don’t know how to succeed.”
That alone says a lot of it right there. I believe this is one of the hardest things new bloggers try and figure out all the time and with a little learning and taking some action and experimenting and patience, well, things just might improve. You won’t get anywhere if you don’t take action. Nice words here.
I will add “stop learning” in blog failure cause. Blogging is never stop learning process so if we stop learning then our blog surely become failure.

Great point on continuous learning. Even if it’s possible to know everything today, things would be different tomorrow anyway.
This is the hardest thing to communicate with people. A friend of mine works in engineering. Compared to what he does at work, tech is evolving incredibly fast. All he has to do is learn how to use a few 1000 page design manuals. Cake walk compared to learning and developing a modern web app in a timely fashion.

There are many reasons and you have just listed 3 of them and I think that when you setup a blog, you should have a long term strategy for it even it can not benefit you in any ways. You should consider it a friend, a lose friends then you have to take care and bring more friends to play with…Many bloggers are not creating MFA sites and rip contents from other blogs, those blogs can bring some cash but it is not a blog at all

I definitely agree with these points! Think of blogging as a business.
Millionaire Acts´s last blog ..True Essence of Christmas
Thinking of blogging as a business is a good way to go too. I read somewhere (I know I should have the source, sorry!) that if you think of blogging as a hobby then that’s the results you’re going to get. If you think of blogging as a business then that’s also the results you’re going to get.
Though we both know that it takes much time and hard work along with thinking of it as such.
You make some good points here. If new bloggers (such as myself very much) set out a goal to succeed and take some advice from those who are succeeding and not give up then we’ll see a difference. You have to really know what you’re doing and get things right and things aren’t going to be right the first time around for most people. After that it’s just hard work and patience. Something I believe everyone can work on.
Can’t wait for the second part!
I don’t know whether I should laugh at myself
I did commit all these sins you have mentioned.. trying to curb it down though.

- You only fail when you stop ….
- You stop if you don’t believe
- You don’t believe because there is no inner fire
- Without fire, there is no life
BUT IF YOU
- don’t stop
- stay true to your belief
- continue to improve & feed the inner fire
ONE DAY… success will come to you.

If you’ve started blogging you should know, that it’s not that easy to get traffic to your site. At least you need a few months (approximately 2-3) to have enough info for readers and to have indexed pages in google (it’s the main source of traffic and readers). + to have a thematic blog – is really important, but you should not forget, that there are tons of info on the internet even on your topic, so the competitors will also write something.
