Do you have a thorn in your side and just never bothered to pull it out?
When I look at my list of things to do for this site, there are some tasks that just never make it to the top. Somehow, even when one of those inch up near the top of the priority list, several other new things slide right above it before I get to it. Certainly that happens to you too, right?
The other day when I posted my logo article, Jake from farmvillefanatic decided to point out a bug that’s been bothering me for some time now. I just never had the time to go fix it. Deep down, I hoped that no one would notice but I knew I would have to get around to fixing the problem one day. It’s like getting that little chip in your windshield. You’re always looking at it and it’s annoying but usually not enough to get it taken care of any time soon.
Well, Jake actually decided to take the initiative to actually fix the problem for me! The other day, he sent me an email with fresh code, new images, and simple instructions.
In other words, Jake, one of my newer visitors, noticed an issue and solved the problem for me, virtually a complete stranger to him. (BTW, his site is kicking some serious butt. It’s bringing some crazy traffic numbers and earning him a decent income in a very short period of time.)
Anyway, the point is, it never ceases to amaze me the sense of community some sites have. I don’t want to turn this into a huge thank you post because someone will always be left out. However, there are plenty of other examples of folks helping me move things along … unsolicited! I get things like detailed advice (e.g. Harsh in my earlier days), offers to guest post and even partner with (e.g. Dave has me practically living at his site), and selfless plugs (e.g. Brad and Ms. Freeman giving me unsolicited Alexa reviews).
By no means am I implying that I’m a cruise ship and people who help me are tugboats. I’m really saying that no matter how big or small you are, there’s always something you can’t do or don’t have time to do. I think that it’s great that I have such awesome blog buddies who contribute in a variety of ways.
Do you have any stories of people extending you a helping hand even when you didn’t ask for it?

I am a business professional
with an entrepreneurial spirit. Although I have an MBA and managed websites and IT departments
for several Fortune 500 companies ...
It is always great to hear stories like this. And I bet that Jake didn’t even think that he might get thanked publicly – he just saw a problem and wanted to help.

Agreed. No way he thought I would write a few words about him.

As far as blogging is concerned- for me, yes. There are people in Blogistan (Dave’s term for blogosphere) that really extended a helping hand. It’s a pleasure for me to know those people. But, as of now- I don’t fell of telling it or sharing it through blog. Not until I see the results of what I’ve learned from them.

As we both know, stopping by becomes harder and harder as followers grow. Glad to see you’re still here!
I can honestly I belong to one of the best communities in the blogosphere.
Some readers come and go, some base the worth of a blog on its stats, but I base a blogs worth on the publishers attitude and willingness to work alongside their neighbor.
Thanks for the link luv

I owe you at least that much since I still can’t figure out my Alexa pw in order to return the favor! (BTW, their pw recovery system does NOT work!)
I can’t even begin to tell you the number times I have gotten free help from bloggers I network with, some I asked for but some was just offered to me.
If you have a quality networking plan, and surround yourself with great bloggers, the possibilities are endless….

Being helpful like this is one of the great things about having a nice community of people visiting your blog daily. Community is the way it should be.

You are rights. However, if you have passion and if you would like to do, you can do it by different ways even calling for guest bloggers or friends.

Oh man ya gotta love it, don’t-cha? My little community is friggin awesome also! I have countless stories of them helping me, both asked and unasked.
My all time fave so far was late last year, my funds were low and my hosting bill caught me off guard…I pay every three months, so sometines I foget it’s coming.
I put out a real CRY FOR HELP, offering reviews, advertising, whatever I could think of. Some jumped on it offering what they could, but the bill was like $100.
Suddenly I get an email (before the post feed even went out) from the two lovely ladies at AffiliateBlogOnline.com saying simply…love to help, send me your paypal address.
What made this so extra special? I had commented on their blog maybe, what, twice? before this happened…that’s not a lot of interaction and there they were.
I almost fell off my chair. lol

That’s a great story. Not sure I would pass out cash like that to fellow bloggers but I’m glad you found yourself a good Samaritan.
Always glad to help! Honestly without this site I would be doing pretty poorly, its the least I can do. Thanks for the linkage (though I have to wonder how many people here play FarmVille, lol) and as always great information and help. I cant go more than about 2 days without visiting your blog to see what you’ve posted for us. =D

Trust me, your site would be doing pretty darn well, with or without me. It makes me want to start a trendy site!
That is what a blogging community is all about. It is about building relationships, and friendships.

Hi Gabe,
Bloggers are a wonderful lot or at least the ones I have met so far. Gabe, you were one of my earliest commenters and that has made the difference. Through your blog I got to know others. I have learned a lot from your posts and those of other bloggers and have since acquired a really generous (tor)mentor in Dave Doolin of Website in a Weekend … I think we need tormentors more than mentors, they hold our feet to the fire … he is completely selfless with suggestions and support.
Thank you for all that you do ………….valentina
