When I started this project, I posted this freelance earning opportunity as an experiment. Then I followed up with my eHow earnings after one week and my eHow earnings after two weeks. After that last post, which I made on September 10, I stated that I would wait a bit longer to post updates since the earnings were still $0. Well, guess what. Not only do I have earnings now, but I also had earnings then! I just didn’t know it.
Apparently, there was a bug in the system and a handful of new eHow members in August didn’t get their earnings updated correctly. Even though I started in the last week of August, I actually earned something! That’s pretty good since it’s very rare to see even a cent during your first week on your own blog. So before I go on, let me post some stats since I’m sure that’s what you want to see (numbers from my last post two weeks ago in parentheses):
Articles written: 25 (9)
People recommended me: 45 (12)
Friends: 563 (93)
Total article views: 1,585 (219)
Highest views for one article: 218 (54) – How to Make Yourself Levitate
Total article earnings: $8.28
Highest earnings for one article: $2.79 – How to Get the Best Price on a New Vehicle
I’d be the first to admit that although I knew it’s possible to make an income on eHow, I wanted to see it for myself. I remember when I made my first ebook sale on eBay years ago. I’d never been so happy about making $15 my entire life. That’s how many people feel about their first few pennies on eHow. I don’t think anyone can get rich off eHow but the potential is there to make a decent living or provide a nice supplemental income. If you doubt that statement, what do you think will happen when I post 100 articles? 500? Believe it, there are many eHow members who have over 500 articles!
So how much should we expect to earn on eHow? Well, to be honest, I believe that early on, if your articles are good and you spend a little time optimizing them (which I’ll talk about in another post), you can realistically earn an average of $1 per article per month. It doesn’t seem like much, I know. But once your articles have matured and you’ve spent even more time fine-tuning them, I believe that you can earn an average of $5 per article per month. So if you had 200 mature articles, an average month would bring you in about $1000.
If that still doesn’t excite you, picture this. If you did nothing after that, in ten years, you would have accrued $120,000 on about 400 hours of work (assuming each article takes you 2 hours to write and optimize). That means if you are able to spend an entire year, 2000 hours worth, building your library on eHow, you would produce 1000 quality articles that will earn you about $5000 per month, $60,000 per year, and $60,000 every year in the foreseeable future!
By piggybacking the strength of eHow (Alexa Rank: 194), it’s much easier for your articles to get noticed if you use the sound blog strategies. Moreover, if there is overlap, you can also give your own blog a plug. For instance, anytime I re-purposed a post from this blog into an eHow article, I linked it back to here by marking Free Blog Help dot Com as a resource. After all, it would be stupid of me not to promote my own blog whenever it makes sense to.
I want to finish this eHow update with just a warning. Just like successful blogging, you better be a good writer, better be creative, and better be willing to put in the work to optimize. I spend a little time each day in the eHow forums and there are tons of people complaining that they can’t make money or they can’t get visitors and they can’t come up with ideas. I would then go look at their article library and their articles have bad titles, bad keywords, poor writing, spelling errors, punctuation and cap mistakes, no point, plagiarized content, spam copy, and useless material. eHow is not easy but for those who are willing to put the work in, it will pay off.
Once again, feel free to take a look at my eHow library to see my 25 articles. Now that I have several articles gaining some traction, let’s see if I can earn $1 per article per month on this first group. Although eHow has been fun for me, I don’t picture myself writing another 25 articles in the upcoming month. Fortunately, if my theory is true, I just made myself about $125 a month for the rest of my life (or as long as eHow is in business)!

Wow, you’ve done really well with eHow as well. My posts haven’t really been doing that much in the way of making money ($10/month with 17 posts), but my wife has actually done pretty well ($20-$80/month for 30ish posts.. it depends how active she is). When we first started writing we didn’t know anything about SEO, so we have a lot of room to improve there.
I have found ehow to be a nice little bonus cash side project. I’m probably going to try to get back to writing at least one article per week. 52 articles should add up pretty quick. Another thing is the more articles you have, the more people use you as a resource. It all ads up quick.
It does all add up pretty quick. The best thing is for people like us, we can tie everything together. Bloggers can post about eHow and use eHow to point to their blog. It’s a beautiful thing!
That is great achievement as not many newbie can make that much. I hope I can make about 50$ from eHow but I do not have enough time and my english is too bad
You can just work at your own pace. Some writers are posting up to 10 articles a day! Granted, some are not of the highest quality but in the beginning, it’s good to try a variety of topics to see what works.
As for your English, just by looking at your two sentence comment, I can tell it’s better than half the people who write on eHow! If you need to need an editor, you can ask someone at the eHow forums for free or find someone who will edit your article for a very low fee. I’d bet you could find someone on eHow to edit your articles for $1 each.
In just a little four weeks, I’m already averaging over $1 per article per month. The point is, it’s a numbers game. Over time, those same articles, even if I never log in to eHow for another 12 months, will earn me $500-$1000. And that’s conservative!
I’ve been a member of ehow for seven days and my articles have been earning pennies a day and i get excited about it because i see my articles earn money. I’m very new to writing online but hopefully I could get that far, from cents to at least $5 an article per month?
It’s definitely possible. My top article made $5 in its first two weeks! You just have to try various topics to see what niche works best for you. At some point, I’ll post some strategies that I’ve been using. It’s a trial and error for me too but this little experiment is actually fun!
It is amazing how writing such simple how-to articles can earn a person so much income. I started in mid-November last year. In those two weeks, I made $16.04. My last several payments from eHow have been close to $2,000. I’m so glad I found eHow…and so is my bank account.

That’s great news. There are a bunch of folks making four digits a month on eHow. That’s commitment!
What started as an experiment for me (and a way to promote this blog) turned out to be a fun thing to do. All the while, eHow is trickling money into my PayPal account!
BTW, Cyn, what’s your eHow member name?
I think eHow is limited to certain countries only. Our country, Philippines, is not included in the eligible countries.

There are many alternatives to eHow but I choose eHow to play with due to the simplicity of their rules.
Regardless, although you may not be able to benefit from earning income directly from eHow, you can probably still use it to promote your existing sites.
i must try to earn at eHow, $1 for one article monthly is not much, but if fou have 1000 articles… worth a try

It’s not much but it’s a nice steady, supplemental stream. I haven’t posted an eHow article in months and the money is still rolling in.
