gas trucks e1271340311140 Comments are still going strong thanks everyone!

Are you happy with the number of comments on your blog? Seriously, even if you are completely satisfied, you wouldn’t turn down more, right?

Comments are the lifeblood of any blog and I say that for several reasons. The two biggest in my opinion are:

  1. Comments give instant credibility to the blogger. Even if the information on the article is poorly written or has bad information, when a lot of people comment, it gives the author a boost. Generally speaking, people like to do things that other people are doing. Think about it, if you see an article has 100 comments, even if some of them are disagreeing with the article, in order to generate that type of activity, we know the blogger is doing something right. So even if the credit isn’t going toward the subject matter expert arena, it’s aimed at his community-building, traffic-generating, expertise.
  2. Comments give the blogger energy. How long can anyone keep a blog running when no one is reading or commenting on any of the articles? Treat comments are fuel. You will eventually run out of gas if you’re your only reader for months on end.

Of course, there are many other reasons why comments are great to have but those are the biggies. When I wrote How I get more comments than blogs that have 10 times more traffic last year, it was a big hit. I had some wonderful comments and emails from that one since I provided 8 simple steps to increasing comments in that article.

But it wasn’t enough! I was bombarded with inquiries to provide even greater detail as to what I did personally. So I followed up with Get the most out of your time with The Value-Driven Commenting System article.

Anyway, since those two articles were published, my personal promotional activities have decreased. A big part of it is due to the time I’m spending with my family. As some of you know, my wife and I just had our third child a few days ago (yes, that’s three under three — yikes!) so that’s my priority. However, although the number of comments have slightly dipped, I’m still thrilled with my numbers:

  • Over 3000 approved comments in 8 months! Who knows how many spam comments I deleted, probably over 20,000!
  • Overall average of over 25 comments per article; that number includes many of the early ones that had 0!
  • Still maintaining close to a 40 average in comments per article despite my decrease in promotion.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed by commenting here. You folks provide me with an endless supply of fuel! I look forward to seeing your continued participation and of course, I will return the gesture when I can.

If you have comment stats, please post them!
