Google gave us a little surprise for New Year’s Day — a PageRank (PR) update! The last PR update was right before Halloween so Google was kind enough to release it again in only about 60 days.
The reality is, our PageRank is moving along behind the scenes all the time but we can’t see it until Google decides to publish it for the world to see. It would be nice to see it in real time but that would probably make people bonkers. It’d be like trying to lose weight and checking the scale every hour to see progress.
Anyway, Free Blog Help, being five months old, got a PR2. It’s not perfect but it’s not bad. Progress, even when not incredible, is just that, progress. And it’s a bit more juice for my friends here. Obviously, I’m hoping for at least PR3 for the next go-round. Shouldn’t be a problem since I think I’m real close already.
Free free to learn more about Google PageRank if you’d like to know a bit more. I can go into even greater detail but it would bore any non-mathematician.
In the meantime, if you haven’t checked your blog’s PR yet, what are you waiting for? Go get your PR below and let us know what it is!

Even though I’m record as stating that Google Page Rank is absolutely meaningless, I’m delighted to say Website In A Weekend is now page rank 3.
Dave Doolin | Website In A Weekend´s last blog ..Your Next Killer Technique for Telling Compelling Stories (It’s easier than you think)
Whether we like it or not, PR tells visitors and advertisers how powerful our friends are. We’ll be judged by it, even if it isn’t fair.
For instance, I’ve been in the SEO arena for over a decade but this site is young. Additionally, it’s not my only focus and even when I’m working on it, my goal isn’t to drive PR. Does it make my info any less relevant than someone who just started blogging about SEO six months ago who happens to have nicer backlinks?
It’s not a perfect way to judge a site but I can’t say that PR is meaningless. However, it’s still a system that’s going to be used, even if we’re not 100% fans of it.
Wel done on getting a pr2, my new blog just missed out this time, but im a little fed up with it, i sold my old pr1 blog only for Google to give it a pr3 only 3 days later.

As I mentioned in my reply to Dave, following your own PR diligently can be maddening. I try not to worry too much about it because I don’t want to play the ‘gaming the system’ game.
Nonetheless, I still want to know what it is!
Oh, and depending on where you get your PR info, it’s not always accurate either. For example, my home page is a PR2 but my PR toolbar tells me it has a PR4.
Congrats to you…I’m also interested to have a PR but I want my target keywords to perform more.
Thanks
TC

It is not too bad, I got PR two for eblogtip.com, nearly 2 months old blog and PR4 for blogviet.info for 18 months old. Time will answer how many scored Google will reward us!

Thanks for this (great) info. I just checked my blog’s rank with the pr bar you embedded at the bottom of the post, and I’m shocked to know I’ve been given a pr 1.
Men I’m freaked out as I’m on blogger, and have on been around for a few months. Once again thanks for the alert. You rock!

Feels good to know that Google is paying attention, right?
I didn’t even know about Google PR until a couple of weeks ago when signing up to be an Amazon affiliate and that was a question on the form.
Maybe there’s luck for the ignorant, because I have a PR of 4. Congrats to both of us!

It’s good that you don’t pay attention to it since it tends to drive some people bonkers.
Personally, I don’t do anything to bump my PR purposely. If I focused on building better backlinks, no doubt I could move up quicker.
I prefer to simply do what I do and watch it grow organically. Looks like you’re on the right track!
Hi friend,,
Congrats for getting PR 2… You deserve it… Definitely for the next update you will be in high PR…
My blog too got PR 1 this time..

Congrats on the PR, Gabe. Mine stayed the same this time (PR3).
I’m sure you’ll get the PR3 this time… I found getting PR2-PR3 much easier than getting PR0-PR2, so I’m sure you’ll get it next time

Simon | Teenius´s last blog ..Are You Well Prepared For Blogging?
Was kinda shocking to get pr4 right off the bat. Glad I got it though. SE traffic seems to have gone down a bit as a result.

Looks like you got some real nice backlinks on your homepage!
Ironically, some of my articles pages have PR3 and PR4.
Gabe – congrats on a 2! I didn’t know about that tool, I’ve been using some FireFox plugin (though I don’t remember the name anymore).
I am not one of the ones that gets bonkers but when given a tool at my fingertips I will def check it out!
My Virtual Assistant site has a 3 and then two sites that I built for others that are 2 months old or less both are at a 1 already. My only mystery now is my vacation rentals by owner site which is older than both of those coming in at a zero….hmmm….will have to see if I can figure out why….
BTW, what plugin are you using to get the threaded comments like this? I’ve been having issues trying to find an easy way to accomplish that and the plugins I’ve found so far….not so easy!
Michelle @ Your Virtual Assistant´s last blog ..WordPress Plugin Review: Section Widget
PR is heavily based on the quality of backlinks to your site. So the site that you have with 0 means it doesn’t have enough “powerful” friends pointing to it.
As for the threaded comments, I’m not using a plugin. This theme does it for me automatically.
Of course, I used Frugal theme in the past and that did it too. When I switched though, all the existing threaded comments were no longer threaded, just the ones that were new. So if you look at my old posts, you’ll sometimes replies to comments not formatted correctly.
Gabe – as always thanks for the super info!
I’m going to have to do some research on Thesis because all things considered it should have some type of threaded comments option to me. I probably just don’t know about it!
Have a super duper day!

I echo most of the remarks here about PR, my latest site is too new to get an update on this round, but my traffic and comments shows me how well my site is actually doing.

I’m not changing my strategy to improve inbound links so if it organically happens, then great.
Awesome news, Gabe! I guess PR 4 is on the way, let’s say after 60 days

PR moves along behind the Google walls continuously. For all you know, you’re already PRx but they haven’t published it yet!
For some reason, I also get the impression that PR doesn’t update for everyone at the same time. I know during the last PR update a lot of people didn’t have any change even though they posted tons of new content and received countless new backlinks.
Blake @ Props Blog´s last blog ..Everything You Thought You Knew About SEO Is Wrong
PR is always changing at Google HQ. We just don’t see it until Google decides to fill us in.
Also, many toolbars and other methods take some time to catch up. Using the tool that I provided on this page is the most accurate way to check PR after a release.
Oh, one more thing, since PR is based on page, not site-wide, PR can be very different from page to page within the same blog. I have PR2 on my home page and PR0 through PR4 on my articles.
Hope they will make the next update soon! Gabe, wish you will get even higher than PR 3 soon bro!
