Today we have an article from a new guest poster, Melissa Tamura, who writes about spicing up your… content. Read on and let her know what you think!
Spicing up your blog content is something that every writer can do to attract more interest in their blog. One of the easiest ways to enhance your blog content is to add multimedia content. It is incredibly easy to embed Youtube videos, music players, and pictures on your blog. Tired of writing a blog entry? Why not try a video blog? There are many different types of multimedia you can utilize to maximize the experience of every reader.
2. Invite a Guest Blogger
Your loyal readers value your opinion. Therefore, when you entrust another writer to provide a fresh take on your blog, it almost always enhances your own content. Guest blogging can be done in a myriad of ways. One idea is to introduce an alternate opinion to one of your previous blog posts. When readers explore another author’s opinion, it ultimately let’s them value your opinion even more. Another direction you can take with guest blogging is to ask a close friend or relative to post something. Establishing a relationship on a personal level with your readers is vital to your blog’s success. Letting readers into your life does just that.
3. Be Controversial
Don’t be afraid to stir things up! If you have a radical opinion on something and you’re afraid to share it, don’t be! Sharing a radical opinion will intrigue your audience, regardless of whether or not they agree with you. Your readers ultimately value your opinion. Giving them a different way to think about something is an excellent way to not only entertain your readers, but educate them. There are so many blogs out today. Set yourself apart! Be controversial!
4. Provide a Unique Take
Write a blog entry. Follow your normal routine. Next, don’t publish it! Read it over! Think about what you can do to make your entry more unique. Don’t be afraid to rework your entire post. Provide your readers with an opinion that they’ve never heard before. Giving your readers a refreshing opinion is an incredible way to generate buzz around the online community about your blog.
5. Vary Your Voice
Are you the author of a blog that is characterized by a humorous and light voice? Instead of writing your next blog entry in that very same light, vary your voice! Try giving your readers a sarcastic and cynical view that they haven’t heard from you before. Even though you won’t always be doing this, varying your voice points readers to your high intelligence, while also letting them see a different side of you.
6. Develop An Identity
Ask yourself this question: Why do people read my blog? Brainstorm the many different aspects of your blog that keeps drawing readers back. Once you’ve done that, find ways you can enhance what you’re already good at. Your audience reads your blog because they appreciate your specific talents. However, being great at something that you’re already good at is vital to taking your blog to the next level. This process of exploiting your own talents might be the final step you need towards making your blog relevant.
7. Have Fun With It!
When you have a potential blog post, don’t consider it a chore! If you treat your blog like a leisure activity rather than a homework assignment, the content in your blog will be spiced up with little effort! Readers will be able to pick up on the passion you employed when you were writing your entry and truly appreciate it. The best bloggers with the best content love what they do. Because they are so invested in their blog entries and believe in everything they write, the content takes care of itself. At the end of the day, having fun with your blog might be the easiest way to spice up your blog entries.

Some great thoughts. I think a lot of bloggers get stuck in a rut to quickly and these should definitely get them thinking a bit more creatively.
Personally, when I want to spice my blogs up, I wirte something that is against the grain of what everyone else is saying. It stirs a bit of controversy and usually get’s a nice debate happening in the comments.

Striking up controversy is a great way to get traffic and dialog! Just as long it’s not overdone, that is. Some bloggers who do that give the perception that they simply like to argue.
That is true. I have noticed that some blogger do try to use controversy too much. It is all about moderation.

Very excellent tips.
IMO there needs to be more spice in the web, but like anything to much spice is bad.
Multimedia helps the most since its very easy to engage in.

Vary my voice, Now I will try that. I will try to post in a different way then I always post. Thanks for the tips
I’m not sure i could vary my voice, even if I wanted to. lol
Controversial is awesome in moderation and best when not trying so hard…then you will most likely come out smelling bad; definitely not for beginners.

#4 is a good point. I think many bloggers over look this one and continue to rehash the same content over and over again. One should practice thinking outside the box and generate new blog topics and ideas.
being creative is one thing, but being it consistently that is another thing. sometimes it is very hard to come up with new things to spice things up. sometimes you can read a real good tip and decide to use it, but if the creative spark is not present …

Cool article, I’ve been trying my best to put the time in to write unique content for my blog.
Great post. Just be yourself and work hard at it. I’m really wanting to do some video but not sure where to start. I don’t want to look like a complete fool although that might be good too!

I like what you said on point #3: Be controversial. Most of the time I see bloggers write the same monotonous and boring writings. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone. It doesn’t mean you should attack other people. Just voice out your honest opinion on things. It works out all the time.

“Develop an Identity”- Absolutely! No matter how well informed your opinions or relevant the news you’re posting; no one will care if it’s not interesting to read. You have to write in an original style if you want people to keep coming back to your blog.
Some really cool tips. Adding multimedia like pictures, videos or podcasts is especially very appealing. Another option I would consider is user engagement through opinion polls, contests and events. Nice post!

Great set of tips, and very truthful too. It is always good to go through these options to see what works and what doesnt at this point in our blogging career as you never know what surprises come out, and every experience is always part of something bigger. Interestingly I have been thinking of having a ‘guest poster’ on my blog for a while now, as I am so inspired by the idea. I haven’t figured out who yet, and when to fit it in, but it will come eventually.
Thank you so much for your articles, they provide a world of knowledge and good to all.
Nice to see you stop by.

Inviting a guest blogger is good idea but you need to have Google Pagerank or else many guest bloggers won’t be interested. They are mainly interested in getting link juice.

A decent PR helps but I’ve had guest bloggers way before I even had PR2. If the focus is to build relationships and promote yourself to another audience, it’s not hard to find others like yourself.
Yes, you are correct, but in general terms its really easy to get guest blogs to high PR sites than low PR sites.
Or if your site has high amount of traffic then also it will be easy !
Baba Pandey´s last blog ..World Cup 2010 Tv Schedule
Very true. It’s really a testament of the better your site gets, the easier it gets.
I believe number 7 is the key of a successful blog… if you find something exciting in the activity you’re performing no matter if it is blogging or something else…it will make it seem much easier and it will make you more creative and of course u will have success with it…

i love you
Controversy often seems to be an easy way to get readers – although often merely for a short time. I liked your point about varying tine of voice – some of my favourite blog posts have been written at 3am when I censor what I’m saying less. And content’s a must. Unless you’ve got the best tone and topic in the world (e.g. Belle de Jour never used pictures), though business blogs are a bit different.
Hi,
Nice blog idea you have here. I have FREE cartoon content available on my blog if you are interested. Cartoons are an excellent addition to any article.
